JAHSE:PRE Peer Review Checklist

Reviewers, please evaluate the following:

  1. Significance/Relevance for Health Sciences Education Scholarship and Research
    1. Is the topic timely and relevant? Why or why not?
    2. Does the submission make a significant contribution to the field?
  2. Introduction: Does the introduction clearly present an overview of the paper and indicate the significance?
    1. Are research questions and major issues introduced?
    2. Is there a clear need presented?
  3. Is there a literature review?
    1. If so, is it well described, current and appropriate?
  4. Are all relevant methods clearly described?
    1. Could the methods be reproduced based on the information provided?
  5. Are the results clearly associated with the data collected?
    1. Are the results compelling and useful to the discipline?
  6. Is there a discussion of the impact of the process and lessons learned?
  7. Are the conclusions logical based on the research question or problem?
    1. Do the conclusions have implications for the discipline?
  8. Do the Figures and Tables clearly enhance or support the content of the article?

Information for Peer Coaches

You will be contacted by Rebecca Wilson or Sara Rose in the Academy of Health Science Educators when a request for dissemination peer coaching matches your areas of expertise. When you accept this role, we will provide the author’s contact information and any work submitted so that you can initiate contact with the author.

Your role in assisting authors includes:

  • Help authors explore their long term interest in the dissemination of their scholarship and help them find appropriate publishing guidelines to use in preparing their dissemination in the JAHSE:PRE
  • Coach authors, as needed, in using the guidelines to produce a dissemination which will meet the JAHSE:PRE acceptance standards.
  • Encourage authors to complete and submit their first dissemination to JAHSE:PRE (dependent on their target journal’s rules regarding pre-prints) and then to an appropriate venue in their field, using feedback obtained from readers of the JAHSE:PRE version
